As this school year draws to a close, I’m sure you can’t help but reflect back on the accomplishments and challenges of the 2007/08 school year. We have been busy:
- Encouraging school attitudes against violence, aggression and bullying while tackling these issues head on.
- Creating a positive school climate by meeting the needs of our youth thus leaving our administrators and educators with more time to focus on the business of academic achievement.
There exists no greater reward for School Resource Officers than the creation of safe schools. The ability to make our schools a calm and secure place of learning requires a strong and deliberate commitment.
It shows our community that we take school safety and the protection of their children seriously. Without safe schools, teachers cannot teach and students cannot learn.
Although some of us may leave our schools for the summer, our minds will not be far from preparing for another safe school year. Our plans and our aspirations are not limited by a set of guidelines. Each department, each SRO, each community holds in their hands the opportunity to shape the type of school climate it wishes to create.
